Refurbishment & Modernization

Extending Asset Lifecycles. Restoring Peak Performance.

Replacement isn't always the right answer. Our engineering team rebuilds, upgrades, and extends the life of heavy assets, so you get more service out of equipment you've already invested in.

Refurbishment & Modernization

Seven Ways We Extend Asset Life

Aging equipment doesn't have to mean declining performance. Each service below is built to restore, extend, or upgrade what you already own.

01

Component Overhaul & Remanufacturing

We strip, inspect, and rebuild individual components to original performance standards. This includes engines, pumps, traction motors, and other critical parts that see heavy wear over time.

Overhaul isn't just a repair. Each component goes through the same testing standards as new equipment, so what comes back into service performs like it, not just looks like it.

02

Locomotive Rebuilds & Repowering

We rebuild locomotives from the ground up, including full repowering where the original engine is replaced with a modern, more efficient unit. This extends service life well beyond what routine maintenance can achieve.

Repowering in particular changes the economics of an aging fleet. Instead of retiring a locomotive because its engine is at end of life, we replace the engine and keep the rest of the asset in service, often at a fraction of new-build cost.

03

Electrical & Control Upgrades

We upgrade outdated electrical systems and control architecture on existing assets, bringing them in line with current performance and safety standards without a full rebuild.

This work often includes replacing obsolete control systems with modern equivalents, improving diagnostics, and reducing the risk of failure from components that are no longer supported by original manufacturers.

04

Structural Rehabilitation

We assess and repair structural damage and fatigue in heavy assets, restoring integrity before it becomes a safety or performance issue.

Structural wear is often the least visible problem until it becomes the most expensive one. Our assessment process is built to catch fatigue and damage early, so rehabilitation happens on a planned timeline, not as an emergency response.

05

Life Extension Programs

We build structured programs to extend the working life of fleets and heavy assets well past their original design life, combining overhaul, upgrades, and ongoing engineering support.

This is less a single service and more a long-term plan. We assess the full asset base, identify where extension makes sense, and sequence the work so operations aren't disrupted while it happens.

06

Obsolescence Engineering

When original components, systems, or suppliers no longer exist, we engineer alternatives that meet the same functional and performance requirements.

Obsolescence isn't just about one missing part. It can affect entire systems as manufacturers stop supporting older platforms. We identify where obsolescence risk sits across an asset and engineer around it before it forces an unplanned shutdown.

07

Reverse Engineering

When a component can't be sourced and no replacement exists, we rebuild it from the original design. This starts with the physical part or its technical drawings and ends with a rebuilt component tested against original performance standards.

This is often the only practical option for older rail and industrial platforms, where the original manufacturer no longer produces the part or no longer exists. Reverse engineering keeps the asset running without forcing a redesign of the whole system.

How We Take an Asset From Worn to Ready

A consistent process across every refurbishment and modernization project.

01

Assess

We evaluate the asset's current condition, performance, and remaining service life.

02

Engineer

Our team designs the scope of work, whether that's a component rebuild, a full repower, or a structural repair.

03

Rebuild

Components and systems are rebuilt or replaced to the engineered specification.

04

Upgrade

Where needed, we bring electrical, control, or structural elements up to current standards.

05

Test

Every rebuilt or upgraded element is tested against defined performance benchmarks.

06

Commission

The asset is returned to service, verified, and ready.
